I was born in the port town of Nagasaki.
When I was a little girl, I was playing on a rooftop when I saw seabirds flying above me.
As I watched the birds circling slowly, I wished over and over again that I could go far away and fly away.
Since then, “birds” have been a symbol of “straightforward purity and strong independence” in my mind.
