つくば市中央公園内にあるつくば市民ギャラリーにて、4月11日（日）〜4月18日（日）までかわのきくこによる初の個展”Fantastic Worlds Come to Life” 「幻想の世界は日常に生きている」が開催されます。ごく細いミリペンを使って白い画用紙に幻想と日常が入り混じる不思議な世界観が描かれます。挿絵画家としてデビューした18歳の頃の作品から出産して子育てをしながら描いた作品までを展示します。

作家コメント：
私は、日本の最西端、長崎の街に生まれました。 幼い頃から、アジアとヨーロッパの伝統が日本の生活様式に混ざり合っている独自の長崎文化に囲まれて育ちました。それは、とてもカラフルで豊かな世界観でした。これらの経験は今でも私の作品に影響を与え続けています。
ある日、息子がメダカを家に連れてきました。 私たちは、メダカを水草の入った大きな壺に入れて、毎日観察し始めました。 壺の中で、メダカは滑らかにそして穏やかに泳ぎました。水にそっと浮かぶ水草が魚に心地よく触れていました。彼らは水草の間で踊ったり遊んだりするように、瓶の中を泳いでいました。 こうして、私の息子は水草の少年になったわけです。
「幻想的な世界は、日常に生きている」
日常の生活は、神秘的で幻想的な世界とつながっています。 この世界は、幼い頃から私を捕らえ、決して私を手放すことはありません。

The first solo exhibition by Kikuko Kawano, “Fantastic Worlds Come to Life,” will be held at the Tsukuba Citizen Gallery in Tsukuba Central Park from April 11 (Sun) to 18 (Sun). This is the first solo exhibition by Kikuko Kawano. Using a very thin millimeter pen, she draws a mysterious world where fantasy and everyday life are mixed together on white drawing paper. The exhibition will include works from her debut as an illustrator at the age of 18, as well as works she drew while raising her children after giving birth.

Artist’s comment :
I was born in Nagasaki, the westernmost city of Japan. From a young age, I grew up surrounded by the unique Nagasaki culture, where Asian and European traditions are mixed with the Japanese way of life. It was a very colorful and rich view of the world. These experiences continue to influence my work to this day. One day, my son brought home a killifish. We put the killifish in a large jar filled with water plants and began to observe them daily. In the jar, the killifish swam smoothly and peacefully. The water plants floating gently in the water touched the fish comfortably. They swam in the jar, dancing and playing among the water plants. Thus, my son became a water plant boy. The fantastic world lives in the everyday. Everyday life is connected to a mysterious and fantastic world. This world has captured me from a very young age and will never let me go.
